Part Three: The day of oddly disappointing Smoothies.

Today has spontaneously become Smoothie Day. I say that only because I had two today rather than my Breakfast smoothie. This evening my brother and I tested a recipe that we had bodged together. Needless to say…disappointing (ISH). They were kind of yummy but not wow!! you know?

I’ll start with breakfast. Mum had found an Iced coffee breakfast shake on Pinterest yesterday and had shown me the Recipe. It sounded good so I made it this morning. Now I will be honest and say I eye-balled the amounts rather than sticking to the proper recipe so it might have been off because of that. It was probably because I substituted ingredients though.. It might also just have been the way it is supposed to be however which if that is the case then it is just not for me. Drinkable sure but I think I would stick to Apple, Banana and Ginger with Oats and protein powder instead.

The recipe was as follows… (I’m not sure who to credit this to as there are a few versions of the same recipe around but if you put Coffee Protein Smoothie into Pinterest its one of the first ones on there with a Drawing of a smoothie cup with the measurements on it.)

  • 1 Cup unsweetened almond milk (I used Rice milk)
  • 1 cup brewed coffee
  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1 scoop Vanilla protein powder (I only have chocolate)
  • 2 cups Ice

So obviously mine deviated from the original recipe so I can’t say anything bad about that. I added my ingredients, with a touch less Ice and blended it up. Coffee and Banana is definitely an acquired taste. Add on the always strange Chocolate protein powder and it was Okay but …well… Weird. So very weird. I drank it though and it kept me going until about 16:00 when I tried baking some rolls so it wasn’t a complete no-go. I am trying it again tomorrow but with a frozen banana and no ice to see if a less watery consistency helps.

Since I got up late that was basically breakfast and this evening we had a Barbeque. My Brother had the idea of a Cucumber smoothie so I looked on the Net and found a few recipes which we sort of smushed together to make this..

It is very green. Drinkable – yep but also some room for improvement. The ingredients:

  • 1 Medium Banana
  • Roughly 2/3 of a Cucumber (Peeled – I can’t eat skins)
  • A pinky finger nail size chunk of Ginger
  • About 4 Tablespoons frozen baby Spinach.
  • Rice Milk

It isn’t bad but needs tweaking. So next time less spinach, I think half the amount would do. Maybe. I’m not sure. I can’t quite work out what bothers me about it to be honest. I think it might be the spinach. Or its reconsiling Banana and Spinach. Regardless I’ve seen these ingredients mixed in numerous “Bloat Busting” smoothie recipes so it can’t be bad for you.

I’ll tell you all about the Bread I made today, tomorrow.

Until then!

Keni 😀
